Glossybox Jan ’13

January 2013

I don’t know about you, but I tend to find a cosmetic brand that I like and stick to it. All very well, but am I missing out on thousands of unexplored products? To conquer expanding out of my comfort zone, I decided to be brave and experiment with new brands of skincare and cosmetics.

I soon discovered “Glossybox” online, which is a company that sends its subscribers a box of five beauty miniatures each month. All in all, a fantastic way of discovering new high-end beauty brands and their latest products.

Today I received my first “Glossybox” which was the January 2013 box. Beautifully wrapped in a dusty pink box, filled with black tissue paper were my products: Body Lotion with Aloe Leaf and Green Tea by Eco-Boutique; Micro Exfoliant by Monu; Hydra Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for Eyes by Murad; Dewy Perfection Finishing Powder by BM Beauty, and a sample of Active Reverse Thermal Transformation Mask by Sanctury Spa.

The Body Lotion by Eco-Boutique:

This came in a 30ml bottle – generous, considering the full size product is only 50ml. Being a huge fan of both aloe vera and green tea, I was very excited to try this product and was not disappointed. It boasts natural ingredients and is even packaged in a bottle made from 97% recycled materials. Free from parabens, paraffin oil, SLS, SLES, artificial colours and silicones, it is designed to be ethically luxurious. A little goes a long way with this product. It feels light on the skin, leaving it feeling refreshed, rather than smothered. It leaves no ‘sticky’ feeling or residue, and leaves the skin feeling soft and youthful.

The Micro Exfoliant by Monu:

Having hypersensitive skin myself, I was apprehensive about trying this product at first, as it claims to be a ‘powerful dual-action microdermabrasion’, which lead me to imagine how red and irritated my skin would be after use. To my delight, I was proved utterly wrong! Beautiful smell, wonderful texture and a gentle yet powerful exfoliant. After rinsing this product off my face, my skin was left in a lovely, soft condition. This product came in a 30ml bottle, and I plan to purchase this product as soon as the Glossybox sample runs out!

The Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture For Eyes:

This product came in a 3.5ml pot – the full size product is 15ml and costs £57. The eye cream had a lovely texture, and absorbed into the epidermis of the skin quickly, leaving a very soft surface. I was surprised to discover that it has very little scent to it. Whilst the product was lovely to use, I’m not sure that it impressed me enough to be a product worth that price.

The Dewy Perfection Finishing Powder by BM Beauty:

Being a huge fan of “bareMinerals” make-up range, I was very excited to try this finishing powder, as it competes with the “mineral veil” I regularly use. I  am very keen on mineral-based products, and BM Beauty have created a range of skin-friendly make-up made up of natural minerals. The powder was extremely fine and light-weight, and only a very small amount was required for an even coverage of the skin. I enjoyed using both over my foundation as an ‘airbrush finish’, and on the top of my cheek bones as a highlighter. I was very impressed with this product, and for only £8 for a pot of 4g, you can’t go wrong!

The Active Reverse Thermal Transformation Mask by Sanctuary Spa:

This product came in two separate sachets: one of a Peptide Transformation Serum, and one of a Thermal Rose Clay mask. Designed to me used together, the instructions were to apply the serum all over the face and neck, followed by the mask, and to leave on for fifteen minutes, before removing with warm water. The serum has a wax-like texture which glides easily over my skin. I then applied the clay mask which instantly produced a very warm sensation all over my face (a shock if you’re not expecting it!) the sensation soon disappears and cools. The mask stays moist throughout the fifteen minutes, making it easy for removal. Once the products were removed, my face was left feeling smoother and was glowing! Very impressed by this combination of products.

Overall, I am very pleased with my first Glossybox, and am already looking forward to what next month’s box has to offer!
