I was very excited to find this new mattifying primer by the tills in Boots the other day and couldn’t wait to try it. I have been obsessed with primers for a while now and have experimented with many. My favourite matte primers are currently Bareminerals and MUA, but I am always keen to discover a new good’n.
Unlike most matte primers, it is a white substance (most seem to be a frosty gel) which smoothes over the skin beautifully. It absorbs into the skin really fast as well which is great – there’s nothing worse than having to wait for ages before being able to apply your make-up. Another point to note is that it actually works – it does mattify your skin incredibly well. Having said that, I think it may even do its job too well! Despite having oily/combination skin, I actually struggled to spread the primer over less oily areas of my face, as if I were someone with really dry skin.
The primer is in fact too drying on my cheeks and makes my make-up look awful and patchy because of this. I decided to use the primer on my t-zone only to see how that would work and the result was hugely improved. It kept shine at bay for a few hours and my make-up stayed in place.
Overall I think if you have incredibly oily skin, give Rimmel Stay Matte Primer a whirl, or if you’d be up for using a combination of two different primers in the morning. Personally this is a bit of a faff for me, so I don’t think I shall be using the primer very much.
It does ‘what it says on the tin’ but doesn’t work so well for my skin.
Have you tried Rimmel Stay Matte Primer? What do you think?
