A couple of weeks ago, Alex and I were kindly invited to see the Hennessey Gold Cup at Newbury Racecourse. We’re not regulars at the racing, nor betting in general if I’m honest, but the opportunity to get dressed up, sip cocktails and learn more about the races could not be missed.
We were kindly given Premier tickets which allowed us into the Berkshire and Hampshire stands which are positioned directly in front of the winning post, which is a fantastic view. There is also easy access to the parade ring and winners enclosure. We had a number of indoor and outdoor food and drink options – whether you wanted a sit down meal, a cocktail at a bar or cafe-style food, they had it all.
Alex and I started the day enjoying two incredible cocktails – if I hadn’t had to drive later that evening, I would have samples the entire range of cocktails, as they all sounded out of this world! Unfortunately it was a freezing day (and I was certainly not dressed for the weather!) so we didn’t stay outside for long watching the races, so we headed in and enjoyed a lovely lunch whilst watching the races on large TV screens, and through large windows.
We decided to bet using an app, as it seemed to be the quickest and easiest option. Unfortunately we didn’t win a penny (which was shocking, as we picked horses by the colour…)!
We would really like to return to Newbury Racecourse in the summer to see a completely different side to the venue, as it looked stunning. Unfortunately Saturday was absolutely freezing, rainy and windy, so it wasn’t the best day to be standing outside for long!
