Ever since I was about twelve or thirteen years old, I have suffered from spots. From tiny blackheads on my nose, to more prominent breakouts, it’s something I’ve been dealing with for a number of years. They’re not much fun. Not only can they be quite sore, but these little pests have knocked my self-confidence on countless occasions and have really affected my self-esteem.
With rather oily (yet sensitive) skin, I spent years envying friends with much drier skin types, who didn’t have to spend their time (and money) experimenting with various potions claiming to ‘clear skin’ and investing in shed loads of industrial-strength concealer to hide breakouts. Whilst I may have gotten pretty good at editing out spots in photos, unfortunately, I have found them harder to disguise in real life. I can’t imagine how many products I have tried in attempt to hide my breakouts or how many times I’ve gotten upset about my complexion.
I must admit that my skin has improved somewhat over the last few years – I’m no longer a teen, my diet has changed, and I’ve also achieved a science degree in beauty and skincare. But still, my confidence is regularly knocked by these pesky papules and pustules.
I was recently approached by Proactiv+, to see whether I would be interested in trying their 3 Step System to improve my skin. To be honest, I’m approached by skincare brands all the time, but the ingredients and science behind Proactiv+ really intrigued me, so I decidedto give their products a go.
The Proactiv+ team kindly invited me for breakfast at Duck and Waffle, London (fabulous, if you haven’t already been – although a little unnerving if you’re afraid of heights!) I was introduced to the brand, the product range and taught about acne-prone skin by Laura, a highly qualified dermatologist.
I nervously removed my makeup and had a 1 to 1 skin consultation with Laura, who carefully analysed my skin and my lifestyle and made recommendations for me.
So, this is my ‘before’ photo… I have no face makeup on at all – as you can see, I have a few breakouts, redness around my nose area especially and I have lots of tiny bumps on my forehead.
Full of breakfast and insightful advice on my skin, I left with recommendations and new products to try for my delicate yet acne-prone skin.
