As you know, I’ve been religiously using Proactiv+ products since January. I’ve suffered from breakouts ever since I was about 13, and it’s really knocked my self-esteem and confidence on many occasions. My skin flairs up for various reasons – hormonal changes, stress, diet and external factors too, and I’ve always felt that I’ve been battling with it to clear it up!
Whenever I mention my Proactiv+ journey on Instagram or Snapchat etc. I always receive private messages asking about the individual products and for advice on the range, so I thought I would share my thoughts on everything on here for you.
The Skin Smoothing Exfoliator is actually more of a cleanser which I’ve been using to double cleanse every morning and evening. It is really gentle in texture, but removes even the most stubborn of makeup and helps to remove excess oils and bacteria from your skin which can lead to breakouts. It’s really lovely (and easy) to use and I seem to get a ridiculous amount of uses out of each bottle, so it’s great value for money too.
The Pore Targeting Treatment is the most ‘active’ of the products in my opinion, as it works hard to keep breakouts at bay. This is to be applied to freshly cleansed skin each morning and evening to reduce the appearance of spots. For me, it has really reduced the number of blackheads on and around my nose, and cleared up the breakouts I had been suffering around my jaw line. It’s a gentle yet powerful product that absorbs really quickly so you can continue with your day.
I wasn’t looking forward to using the Complexion Perfecting Hydrator at first – I had just gotten into using facial oils rather than cream-based products, and was concerned that the Hydrator wouldn’t sit particularly well beneath my foundation. It turns out I was wrong. I LOVE this moisturiser – in fact, it is my favourite facial moisturiser I have ever used (and I’ve used a ridiculous amount over the years!)
Essentially, once the Pore Targeting Treatment has been absorbed into the skin, you can apply the Complexion Perfecting Hydrator. It only takes a couple of minutes to absorb, but I’m a pretty impatient person who likes to keep busy, so I usually clean my teeth in between these two products!
The Complexion Perfecting Hydrator is a really light-weight moisturiser which absorbs quickly and mattifies the skin, and helps to reduce excess shine throughout the day. Often, anti-spot products can really dry out your skin and leave it very sore, but the Complexion Perfecting Hydrator protects and soothes my skin perfectly.
I have had no issues with using it underneath makeup either! I’ve tried numerous types of foundations and bases to put it to the test, and it works with each and every combination I have tried.
I’ve been using the Skin Purifying Mask only once a week, as I’ve tried to keep my routine as simple as possible. I’m someone who loves to try new products, so I have to say that it’s been very hard for me not to pile on a million different lotions, potions and treatments, but it seems to have been worth it. I tend to use it on a Sunday night to give my skin a little boost before the week ahead (usually at the same time as a hair treatment, so I look somewhat terrifying during this time).
It’s gentle on my skin.
Now quite honestly, this isn’t a product I have been religiously using as my boyfriend has actually taken custody of it. He borrowed it once to see what it was like, and I’ve never actually seen it since. He, on the other hand, regularly comments about how much he likes using it, how refreshing it is, and how much he enjoys using it! He is someone who’s pretty fussy when it comes to products, so I guess that’s a good sign!
Luckily this is a product my boyfriend cannot stand, because it has ‘bits’! (Apparently not one for exfoliating!) The Cleansing Body Bar is essentially a body soap to use in the shower or bath, so it can fully remove excess oils and debris which can lead to breakouts on other areas of the skin. I have to admit that I wasn’t initially very excited to try this body bar, because I’m usually not a fan of hard soaps, but I’ve been very impressed by the efficacy of this product that I’ve changed my mind – goodbye shoulder spots and ‘backne’!
Have you tried Proactiv+ before?
*This post is sponsored by Proactiv+, but the above are my own, honest thoughts – I’ve been using these products since January 2017.
